The seed of Bosgraaf was planted in the late 1960s — hundreds of acres of grass seed, to be exact. In the late 1960s, Ted Bosgraaf owned a sod farm with his father, Ben, and his brother, Jack; and while the business was successful, the hassles of grass maintenance empowered the family to “think outside the lawn.” When approached with the idea of flooding his land to create a 228-acre lake and surrounding resort area, Ted sold the farm and Sandy Pines was born.
Throughout the 1970s, Ted continued to help develop the campsite community while developing several condominiums with the help of his brother, including Summergreen in Hudsonville and Grand Haven’s Sandpiper. Known back then as Bosgraaf Sales and Leasing, the company tackled the complete renovation of Grand Haven’s Story and Clark Piano factory, transforming it into an innovative blend of old and new, with condominiums, retail shopping, and a restaurant.
With foundations in land development and construction, Bosgraaf Homes blossomed in the ‘80s and ‘90s with developments such as Bay Meadows, the Cottages at Bay Meadows, Windstream, Rolling Oak, Tall Grass, Sunflower, Silver Ridge, Sunridge, and Woodwind. By then, more family members had joined the venture, with Ted’s son, Brian, handling construction, Ted’s wife, Pat, and son, Mike, handling sales, and Ted’s daughter, Amy, handling operations.
Today, Bosgraaf Homes remains as grounded in family as that old sod farm decades ago, and is now owned and operated by Mike Bosgraaf. Backed by a unique history and a talented team, Bosgraaf Homes builds over 100 properties a year, including large, custom single-family homes, planned communities, and selected commercial projects.
Since the beginning, the Bosgraaf family has built thousands of homes in West Michigan. That’s the result of being grounded. Grounded in exceptional customer care. Grounded in innovative thinking. Grounded in meticulous craftsmanship. But most of all, grounded in family… for four generations and counting.
